Traffic violations on the decline in Qatar


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Road traffic sense of motorists in Qatar appears to have improved since the total number of violations fell more than 13% year-on-year (y-o-y) and more than 10% month-on-month (m-o-m) in April this year, official figures have suggested.

Violations related to speeding fell about 13% m-o-m to 84,885 in April but y-o-y it showed more than 10% increase, said the figures released by Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics in its latest monthly bulletin.

Speeding constituted 61% of overall violations in April 2015 compared to 48% in the previous year period.

Jumping the red signal decreased about 13% to 2,752 incidents against the March level but y-o-y it showed more than 36% increase. It constituted 2% of overall violations in April this year against 1% in the same period of 2014.

The violation of traffic signs was down 5% m-o-m to 7,680 and y-o-y it was plunged 55%. It constituted 5% of overall violations in April 2015 compared to 11% in the year-ago period.

There has been drastic reduction in non-renewal of registration to 203 cases, which had shown a plunge of 23% m-o-m and 65% y-o-y.

In the case of non-renewal of driving licenses, it was up 6% to 134 against the previous month's levels but y-o-y it registered 62% drop.

The violation of traffic instructions shrank 20% m-o-m to 15,042 and y-o-y it registered 62% decline. Such incidents constituted 11% of overall traffic violations in April 2015 against 25% in the previous year period.

Other violations totaled 28,966 in April, which showed 3% and 19% increase m-o-m and y-o-y respectively. It constituted 21% of overall violations in April this year against 15% in the same month of 2014.

Total number of accidents reported in Qatar was 496 in April 2015 with Madinat Khalifa topping the chart with 92, followed by Al Mamoura (82), Airport (76), Al Rayyan (71), North (59), South (58), Industrial Area (42) and Dukhan (16).

Simple accidents and reports against unknown totaled 28,218 in April this year with Madinat Khalifa reporting 6,477; followed by Airport (4,904), Al Mamoura (4,725), Al Rayyan (3,700), Industrial Area (3,687), South (2,383), North (1,875) and Dukhan (467).

Total number of deaths from accidents in April 2015 stood at 21 with South claiming eight lives, followed by North (five) and Madinat Khalifa, Al Rayyan, Al Mamoura and Airport (two each).
