Sirens sound all over Israel as part of emergency drill

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Hundreds of Israelis rushed to shelters after sirens sounded across Israel on Tuesday, as part of a five-day emergency drill that simulates a war against Israel.

Israel Home Front Command Chief Maj. Gen. Yoel Strick said that the main message of this exercise is not to panic.

"The Home Front victory is its ability to withstand during a military battle," Yoel Strick told Israeli radio during the drill.

According to data from Israel's Home Front command, only one out of four Israelis has shelter to protect him from rocket attacks.

Officials expect thousands of rockets to fall on Israel daily in any future war with the Ezzeddin al-Qassam Brigades, the military arm of Hamas or the Shia Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.

Last summer, Israel launched a weeks-long offensive on the Gaza Strip, with the stated aim of staunching rocket fire from the blockaded coastal enclave. According to the Israeli army, as many as 4,000 rockets launched by Palestinian resistance groups fell on Israel.

Over 2,160 Palestinians, mostly civilians, were killed € and around 11,000 injured € in the offensive, which ended with a cease-fire deal signed in August.

At least 73 Israelis € 68 soldiers and five civilians € were also killed during the offensive, which also saw 2,522 Israelis injured, including 740 military personnel.
