Saudi Arabia appoints first ambassador to Iraq since 1990


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Saudi Arabia appointed Thamer Al-Sabhan as its ambassador to Iraq on Tuesday, 25 years after closing its embassy in Baghdad when Iraq occupied Kuwait in 1990.

According to Saudi Press Agency (SPA), after the appointment ceremony Al-Sabhan, a former military officer, delivered his swear-in in front of King Salman bin Abdulaziz.

In 2012, Saudi Arabia appointed its ambassador to Jordan as a non-resident ambassador to Iraq.
