EP suspends cooperation with Russian parliament


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz Tuesday announced the suspension of the EP's engagement with the EU-Russia Parliamentary Cooperation Committee due to Russian blacklist of European politicians and officials.

Schulz in a statement said he today informed the Russian Ambassador to the EU of the measures in response to the Russian move.

The EP is also restricting free access to the EU Parliament to the Russian Ambassador and one other Russian diplomat.

The EP will also assess requests for access to by Members of the Russian parliament Duma and the Federation Council on a case-by-case basis, he said.

Russia has imposed an entry ban on 89 European politicians and officials including members of the European Parliament.
