(MENAFN- Gulf Times) HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid al-Mahmoud represented Qatar at the inauguration ceremony of President of Sudan, Omar Hassan al-Bashir, for a new five-year presidential term yesterday.
President Bashir's inauguration and swearing-in ceremony was held yesterday in the city of Omdurman in the presence of a number of heads of state and governments, parliamentarians and representatives of states, regional and international organisations, among others.
HE al-Mahmoud conveyed the greetings of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to President Bashir.
The Sudanese president reciprocated the Emir's greetings and wished the relations between Qatar and Sudan more development and growth.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by HE the Deputy Speaker of the Advisory Council Issa bin Rabia al-Kuwari, who took part in the opening of the new parliamentary session of the National Council of Sudan yesterday, as well as Qatar's ambassador to Sudan Rashid bin Abdulrahman al-Nuaimi.
President Bashir assumed power in 30 June 1989 and won last April's presidential elections with 94.5% of the vote.
Meanwhile, HE al-Mahmoud held separate meetings with Tijani Sissi, chairman of Darfur Regional Authority (DRA) and head of the Liberation and Justice Movement (LJM), and Amin Hassan Omer, head of the Darfur peace follow-up office.
The meeting reviewed the peace process and stability in Darfur and the success of Doha Document for Peace in Darfur (DDPD).
The two sides also touched on development projects that were carried out in line with DDPD articles and those underway.
Al-Mahmoud also met Chad's President Idriss Deby on the sidelines of the inauguration ceremony.
Relations between Qatar and Chad and ways of developing them were reviewed. They also discussed the peace process in Darfur, the steps and successes of Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, and development projects in the region.
