(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qataris should be given more incentives to settle in areas outside Doha, especially in the northern and southern areas of the country, the Central Municipal Council (CMC) recommended yesterday.
The fourth CMC, the term of which is to conclude soon, proposed that plots given to Qataris outside Doha should be bigger in area to encourage them to build
better houses and stay there.
Most CMC members argued that the plots given by authorities to Qataris should be around 1,500-2,000sqm. "Besides, they should be given more privileges and services to help them remain settled there and avoid moving back to Doha."
However, CMC members felt that the issue is more intricate and needed further discussions and consultations with the entities concerned.
The CMC reiterated its proposal of construction of multi-storey buildings to accommodate the influx of expatriate families and workers.
At its regular bi-weekly session yesterday, the CMC said that vertical construction could reduce the hazardous practice of partitioning villas to meet the increasing demand for housing.
"In addition, real estate developers should be encouraged to build more affordable units within residential complexes," it observed.
The CMC also discussed a suggestion, submitted by chairman Saud al-Hinazb, about the need to enforce segregation of men and women at Primary Health Care Centres (PHCCs).
He said that he raised the issue based on the demand of several people annoyed by the unorganised process of mixing men with women at the entrance, reception and information desks of PHCCs.
Most CMC members agreed with the proposal and said that the issue needed to be addressed, especially at the newly constructed or scheduled to be built PHCCs. The issue was kept on hold for more discussion.
The current round of the CMC still have at least one more session before its term expires.
