Qatar 'needs specialist bakery workers'

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Qatar needs specialist bakery workers as a number of new bakeries await to be opened across the country soon, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce has been told.

Many of an estimated 645 shops being opened in the 44 Al Furjan Markets across the country will be bakeries mainly making 'khubz' (the traditional Arabic bread which is the common man's staple food).

"We will not only be needing equipment for our bakeries but also specialist workers," said a Qatari who has been allotted a shop in one of Al Furjan Markets to open a bakery.

Bakery equipment are not available locally and their installation is quite expensive, he said.

The Ministry convened a meeting recently of all those who have been allotted shops in Al Furjan Markets to open bakeries to discuss the challenges they face in setting up these shops. Al Furjan Markets are shopping centres being opened by the Ministry of Economy and Commerce in the remote areas of the country to ensure that their residents have easy access to things of daily need.

The meeting was presided over by the head of the Ministry's Real Estate Investment Committee for Public Markets, Yahya Al Nuaimi, Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

Bakeries are basic service shops as they provide 'khubz', which is the staple food.

Those who attended the meeting assured the Ministry that they would be opening up the bakery shops in Al Furjan Markets before Ramadan to make sure that people living in remote areas can buy 'khubz' at their door step and don't have to drive long distances to access it like before
