Qatar- Heart Hospital marks Nurses Day

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Heart Hospital held an event to acknowledge work and achievements of its nurses in demonstrating strong commitment to safe, effective and compassionate patient care and passion for professional development.

Over 90 nurses working in different roles and departments gathered at the event, along with senior management and nursing leaders from the hospital.

The day-long event recognised achievements of many nurses and their involvement in patient safety and quality improvement projects, research initiatives and scholastic accomplishments such as the completion of advanced degrees in nursing and publishing articles in nursing journals.

This is the fifth year the hospital marked International Nurses Day, which was declared in 1965 to honour the birth of Florence Nightingale, the English nurse who pioneered modern nursing.

Organisers also used the event to commend efforts of Rufaida Al Aslamiya, known for having devoted her life to developing nursing care in the Middle East and is said to have opened the first nursing school in the Islamic world.

The event also served as a platform for nurses to highlight their projects and undertakings to enhance the quality of care offered to patients at the hospital. Nurses were awarded certificates of appreciation, including special recognition for long-term service, and encouraged to keep up their dedication.

Linda Peters, Assistant Executive Director, Nursing, said, "We appreciate every nurse for dedication and commitment to provide the best possible patient care and this day is set aside to give more recognition to nurses who have taken extra time and efforts working towards a goal and producing positive outcomes. Projects and posters presented during the celebration represent nurses who have worked to put in place protocols and practice based on the best clinical evidence to provide a safer environment for patients in the hospital. These have resulted in marked improvements in the quality of care we're providing."
