2 leading Brotherhood members arrested ahead Morsi verdict

(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Leading members of the Muslim Brotherhood movement, Mohamed Ghazlan and Abdel Rahman Al-Bar, were arrested in Giza Monday, said spokesperson of the group Mohamed Montaser.

Montaser added in a Tuesday statement that the arrests are a failed attempt by the Egyptian government to "disturb revolutionary heroes."

The arrests came hours ahead of the final verdict on former Islamist President Mohamed Morsi, in which his death sentence may be confirmed. The arrests were confirmed by the Interior Ministry who said that Ghazlan and Al-Bar are charged with "forming a terrorist cell."

Before the arrests were announced, Egyptian state TV broadcasted a statement by "security apparatuses", declaring that police have thwarted a Muslim Brotherhood plot against the regime.

The number of arrested members was not stated.
