Kuwait's information minister wraps up visit to the US


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait's Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah has wrapped up a visit to the United States, culminated with a meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon for coordination on realizing objectives of the World Program of Action for Youth (WPAY).

Sheikh Salman, shortly ahead of his departure, described as fruitful and positive his talks with the UN chief. Earlier, he had taken part in a senior-level meeting of the UN General Assembly, marking WPAY's 20th anniversary, and declared a USD 1.5 million grant for supporting activities conducted by Ban's bureau for the youth.

Speaking on behalf of Arab states during the meeting, he said the Arab policy makers have become much more aware of the necessity to support youth schemes, in shadow of "surrounding challenges" in the Middle East.

On the meeting's sidelines, Sheikh Salman met a number of young men enlisted in a UN special program for young professionals. He also honored Dhari Al-Huwayel, a Kuwaiti citizen serving as a volunteer with the US fire department.

The minister, along with the accompanying delegation, had also met with the Kuwaiti students.

Sheikh Salman has affirmed the State of Kuwait's policy of devoting particular attention to the young Kuwaiti generation and youth issues.
