Qatar - Safety embedded in our DNA: Total MD

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Total has recognised six employees for their "exceptional attitude, commitment, and contribution" to the company's health, safety and environment (HSE) best practices as part of its month-long observance of World Safety Day, which was launched on April 28.

Total E&P Qatar managing director and Group representative Guillaume Chalmin said: "Safety has always been a core value for us and is embedded in our DNA. Our success as individuals and as a company strongly depends on how safety conscious we are.

"We need to have a positive attitude, and our behaviour must be a reflection of our vigilance and commitment to our safety and of those around us. It is the duty of each employee to speak up if he or she sees something that is unsafe."

Chalmin said multiple activities were organised for Total's employees and contractors at the Alfardan Tower offices, Total Research Centre Qatar (TRCQ) at the Qatar Science Technology Park, Total warehouse, production site on Halul Island, and the offshore rig at the Al Khalij field.

"These activities were held as a reminder to all employees to be vigilant and behave in a responsible and exemplary way," Chalmin said.

He added: "The commemoration was synchronised to reinforce Total's commitment to safety with a focus on the '12 Golden Rules' as a part of the safety culture programme implemented by the company worldwide, which, when implemented, diligently significantly reduces the risk of incidents."

Employees took part in presentations and open discussions, as well as provided feedback on anomalies and best practices.

Total also introduced a team building programme entitled "Hunting Anomalies," an interactive 3D game that requires employees to form teams and hunt for anomalies in an industrial environment in order to raise employees' awareness on detecting anomalies or risky situations.

Total has had a continuous presence in Qatar for close to 80 years, and is the only international oil company active in all branches of Qatar's oil and gas sector. This includes exploration and production, refining and petrochemicals, and the marketing of lubricants.
