Qatar- Don't charge recruitment fee on nurses: India govt
(MENAFN- The Peninsula) The Indian government has asked agencies and employers recruiting nurses not to charge any recruitment fee on them. Nurses travelling to other countries for jobs will now require prior emigration clearance from Protector of Emigrants' Offices in India, effective from yesterday.
However, the age restriction of 30 years imposed on all women emigrants travelling on Emigration Check Required passports will not be applicable in case of nurses visiting Qatar for employment, irrespective of the nature/category of the job, the embassy said yesterday.
The new rules apparently are intended to prevent exploitation of nurses by employers and recruitment agents.
Effective from yesterday, foreign employers who seek to recruit Indian nurses are required to register in the eMigrate system (www.emigrate.gov.in) and follow the other procedures applicable for recruitment of Indian workers. However, no further attestation of demand would be required from the Indian missions.
Recruitment of nurses for overseas employment will be through three state-run recruiting agencies:
-Non-Resident Keralites' Affairs Department (NORKA-ROOTS), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala (Phone: +91471-2770500, 2332416, 2332452 Fax: 0471-2326263; e_mail: mail@norkaroots.net; Website: www.norkaroots.net);
- Overseas Development and Employment Promotion Consultants Ltd. (ODEPC), Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala (Phone. +914712576314/15/19 Fax:+914712576318; Email: info.odepc@kerala.gov.in; website: www.odepc.org).

These recruitment agencies which are authorized to recruit Indian nurses are not permitted to charge on them any fees towards recruitment expenses. Moreover, foreign employers in Qatar should not recover any amount towards the cost of recruitment from the nurses, initially or subsequently, during contract period, said the embassy.
