The American Heart Association (AHA) has released a scientific statement which says that Transcendental Meditation is the only form of meditation that “may be considered in clinical practice to lower Blood Pressure”. In the paper titled ‘Beyond Medications and Diet: Alternative Approaches to Lowering Blood Pressure’ the AHA wrote “Because of many negative studies or mixed results and a paucity of available trials all other meditation techniques (including MBSR [mindfullness])… are not recommended in clinical practice to lower BP”

With over 350 peer-reviewed research studies that have been published in over 160 scientific journals Transcendental Meditation is one of the most heavily studied and recommended meditation techniques worldwide.

Mark Heath Chairman of the Transcendental Meditation Brighton centre said

“Transcendental Meditation is a very easy effortless technique that helps the mind settle down in an easy natural way which brings deep rest to the body.“

Heath went on to say

“It is great news that the American Heart Association has found that it helps lower blood pressure and that Transcendental Meditation can now be prescribed by doctors as an alternative to medications which often come with a range of side effects”

Dr Suzanne Steinbaum heart specialist at Lenox Hill Hospital commented

“As a doctor as a clinician Transcendental Meditation is the only [meditation] that is prescribe-able for stress reduction. When you actually do TM it affects the arteries it affects the cortisol the epinephrine all of these things decrease the heart slows down the whole system just relaxes not just while you’re doing it but throughout the day.”
