(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Dozens of Palestinians commemorated the fifth anniversary of the Mavi Marmara Gaza flotilla incident on Sunday.
Tens of people took boats out to sea. They raised Palestinian and Turkish flags and banners to condemn the Israeli army's attack on the flotilla five years ago.
The event was organized by activists working to end the blockade against Gaza.
The spokesman for the Popular Committee gainst the Siege, Ali al-Nazli, said at a press conference: "Gaza will not forget what the Turkish people have done to defend the Palestinian cause and breaking the blockade."
Six civilian ships in an aid flotilla were attacked in international waters by Israeli forces on May 31, 2010, as they tried to break Israel's blockade of the Gaza Strip.
Nine Turkish activists were killed and 30 other people injured, including one activist who died nearly four years after being critically injured.
The raid hightened tensions between Israel and Turkey, which recalled its ambassador from Tel Aviv.
