Hyundai Motor sales drop 6.4 percent in May

(MENAFN) South Korea's top automaker Hyundai Motor Co. said that its May sales dropped 6.4 percent from a year earlier, dragged by less domestic and overseas demand, Yonhap News reported.

Hyundai Motor said that it sold 389,299 units last month, down from 416,026 units. Its domestic sales came to 54,990 units, down 8.2 percent and overseas shipments also shrank 6.1 percent to 334,309 units.

Fewer working days caused by holidays resulted in weaker sales in May. For overseas markets, it cited the slowing growth in emerging markets and deepening uncertainty from currency fluctuations.

During the January-May period of the current year, Hyundai Motor said it sold a cumulative 2,009,409 cars, marking a slowdown of 3.6 percent from the same period a year earlier.
