German police alerted after asparagus farmers taken for violent mob

(MENAFN- Saudi Press Agency) An alarmed motorist in the northern German town of
Ludwigslust called police Saturday to report a group of 10 to 15
knife-wielding people walking down the road, according to dpa.

Six police vehicles rushed to the scene but the armed marauders they
expected to find turned out to be nothing more than fieldworkers from
an adjacent asparagus farm out on a lunch break, police said in a
statement.

Along with schnitzel, sausages and fried potatoes, asparagus -
particularly of the white variety - epitomizes the country's cuisine.
Asparagus season, or Spargelzeit as Germans call it, runs from
mid-April through June.
