Kia Motors sales plunge 4.6 percent in May

(MENAFN) Kia Motors Corp., South Korea's second-largest automaker, said that its sales dropped 4.6 percent on-year in May due to a fall in overseas shipments, Yonhap News reported.

The carmaker sold a total of 242,054 units last month, down from 253,601 vehicles a year earlier. Domestic sales gained 10.4 percent on-year to 40,010 units in May, while overseas sales fell 7 percent to 202,044 units.

The decline in exports was attributed to a smaller shipment of domestically produced vehicles. Relatively brisk demand from the market here also offset shipments bound for overseas markets.

Overseas shipments dropped 7.9 percent in May to 95,824 units. During the first five months of this year, Kia Motors' cumulative sales plunged 2.8 percent on-year to 1,265,522, the company said.
