DEWA organises leadership workshop for Dubai Educational Zone's Media Talent Programme students


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has organised a workshop for the Dubai Education Zone's Student Media Talent Programme, which is sponsored by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

The workshop, held at DEWA's Sustainable Building in Al Quoz, supports DEWA's strategy to develop a generation of knowledge-economy focused Emiratis capable of working towards a sustainable future.

The Student Media Talent Programme is part of a project supported by Dubai Educational Zone to improve the media skills of Emirati students in Dubai's government schools. This contributes to preparing an media-savvy generation of Emiratis.

Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA commenting on the workshop quoted His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, who has said, "Leadership is a combination of intelligence, resourcefulness, wisdom, a strong personality and aspiration to the greatest of things."

His Highness has also observed that: "Anyone who can improve the lives of those around him is a leader. Similarly, anyone who can serve people and make them happy is a leader. A leader is also a person capable of creating positive change, whether at work or at home, and of innovating and creating even the simplest of things."

"At DEWA, we adopt an established strategy that enhances leadership among all staff and departments. It educates all employees about the ways to build successful leadership. These include the abilities to influence others and guide their work to achieve the common objectives that affect the outcomes of the organisation, and also to direct its resources to achieve them. We also support and empower UAE National staff, develop their skills, and train them on the best leadership practices. We prepare them so that each becomes a leader in his or her position. We do this using a set of skills that include strategic thinking, confidence building, leading teams, planning, problem-solving, decision-making, leading the change, strategy development, training management, and effective communications in the workplace," added Al Tayer.

The workshop included a question-and-answer session where Al Tayer dealth with students' enquiries about leadership in DEWA's success, the smart government initiative and DEWA's achievements and competitiveness globally.

Dr. Ahmad Eid Al Mansouri, Director of Dubai Educational Zone, urged the students enrolled in the Student Media Talent Programme at the Dubai Educational Zone to take full advantage of DEWA's workshop, especially as it is organised by a reputable organisation that has established its position in Dubai's development, regionally and globally.
