DU presented with Best Corporate Governance Award for the telecoms sector

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) For the second year in a row, Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company, du, has been presented with the 'Best Corporate Governance Award' for the Telecommunications sector in the Middle East, at the 2015 Ethical Boardroom Awards.

The Ethical Boardroom Corporate Governance Awards recognises and rewards outstanding companies who have exhibited exceptional leadership in the area of governance. The awards highlight the important role that corporate governance plays in dictating a company's success and a board's contribution to the creation of long-term value.

Since inception in 2006, du has remained committed to providing accurate, timely information for all its shareholders and stakeholders and has translated strong ethical values into actions implemented throughout the organisation.

Ahmad Bin Byat, du's Chairman, commented, "We understand that good corporate governance is essential for ensuring long term sustainability for our business. It enables us to improve our performance, gain better access to capital and fluctuations in the UAE economy."

The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, OECD, recently said that over the past three years, the practice of following corporate governance principles has emerged as both a policy challenge and a priority for the Middle Eastern region.
