UAE- RTA Chairman receives prestigious leadership award


(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Business intelligence service, MEED, has recognised the career and achievements of the Chairman of Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority, RTA, Mattar Al Tayer, by presenting him with the MEED Editor's Award for Leadership at the MEED Quality Awards for Projects 2015 held in Dubai, in association with Mashreq.

Al Tayer was recognised for his drive and leadership throughout an illustrious career that has resulted in a succession of genuinely world-class, landmark projects that have changed not only the landscape of Dubai, but have also redefined the possibilities and ambitions of urban transport across the region.

Since being appointed to head the RTA as Chairman in 2005, Al Tayer has been the driving force behind the succession of major projects and initiatives that have included the Business Bay Bridge, the Dubai Metro and the Al-Suffouh tram.

He has also led the development of pioneering intelligent transportation systems along with new policies and legislation.

Today, the UAE sits at the top of the world ranking in terms of the quality of roads, according to the Global Competitiveness Report published by the World Economic Forum in 2013 and 2014, and the RTA's projects have improved the quality of life of Dubai's citizens and residents, helping Dubai to rank in first place in the MENA region last year for the quality of living. Al Tayer's leadership of RTA since its establishment in 2005 has been central to these achievements.
