GCC food specification comte meets in Doha


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Technical Committee for Agriculture and Food Products Specifications kicked off its 22nd meeting in Qatar on Sunday to discuss a host of issues related to foodstuffs in the member states.

The two-day gathering will address projects on food specifications, and relevant technical regulations on the Committee's 20015 plan. Participants will also review proposals by the member states on reducing the use of trans fats, in addition to reports submitted by subcommittees.

Addressing the opening session, Director of the Department of Standards and Metrology at the Qatari Ministry of Environment engineer Nawaf Almana, said the foodstuff sector is crucial for the GCC economies, directly affecting people and the society. He also underscored the necessity of realizing food security.

Since it was formed, the committee has been working hard on coping with the international food specifications, Almana added.

He said that committee's plans comprises various projects, many already completed, while others are underway, to cope with developments in the strategy of the GCC Standardization Organization (GSO) for the coming years.
