(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry on Sunday said that his country's national security is closely related to the security of the Gulf region.
Speaking at a joint press conference with his visiting Saudi counterpart Adel Al-Jubeir after their talks in Cairo today, Shukry stressed that Egypt would firmly counter any attempts seeking to impact the Arab nation, as part of its duty of defending Arabs national security.
The Arab nation does not interfere in others' internal affairs, and "we expected other countries in the region to do the same," he said.
On Yemen, the Egyptian Foreign Minister said the two countries shared views on the necessity of restoring legitimacy in the country, and the application of the UN Security Council resolutions. They also agreed on joint action to provide humanitarian needs of the Yemeni people.
For his part, the Saudi foreign minister underscored Riyadh's support efforts seeking a peaceful solution in Yemen, as well as offering relief aid to the Yemeni people.
Al-Jubeir referred to stablishing Riyadh-based King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Works, with the priority of delivering aid to Yemenis.
He pointed to ongoing efforts to resume negotiations for a peaceful solution to the Yemeni crisis, referring to talks between the UN and the Yemeni government on a date for a Geneva conference.
On Syria, both countries emphasized the importance of Russia's role to convince the Syrian regime to get involved in a political process with the opposition.
Meanwhile, Shukry quashed media reports that spoke of an Egyptian-Russian initiative for a solution to the Syrian crisis. He only referred to coordination with Russia as an influential actor on the Syrian scene.
Shukry and Al-Jubeir also discussed means of boosting bilateral ties for the good of the two peoples and the entire region.
