Maids sentenced to jail for stealing cash, jewelry in Qatar

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Two Ethiopian maids have been sentenced to three years in jail each and subsequent deportation for stealing cash and jewellery from their lady sponsor, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported yesterday.

The Court of Appeal upheld the verdict of the Court of First Instance in the case. The victim, a Qatari lady, had travelled to Saudi Arabia leaving behind the two maids and her son at the house. Upon her return, she discovered that the maids ran away after stealing QR20,000 in cash and gold jewellery worth QR20,000.

A friend of the duo introduced them to an Indian man, who helped them transfer the cash to Ethiopia in exchange for QR2,000 and also took a share of the jewellery, the daily added.
