US takes Cuba off US terror list

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The US removed Cuba off the designated State Sponsor of Terrorism list on Friday, indicated State Department Director of Press Relations Jeff Rathke in a statement.

"While the United States has significant concerns and disagreements with a wide range of Cuba's policies and actions, these fall outside the criteria relevant to the rescission of a State Sponsor of Terrorism designation," said Rathke.

On April 14, President Barack Obama sent a report to Congress with intent to rescind the designation. Today, the 45-day Congressional pre-notification period expired and Secretary of State John Kerry made the final decision to rescind Cuba's designation.

The four other countries that remain on the State Sponsors of Terrorism list are Syria, Iran, North Korea and Sudan.
