EU adds Syrian military intelligence chief to blacklist

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The EU added on Friday General Mohammad Mahalla, head of the Syrian Military Intelligence, to its sanctions list saying he is responsible for repression and violence against the civilian population in Damascus and the Damascus countryside.

The EU published his name in its Official Journal and said he is targeted with a travel ban and an EU asset freeze.

Over 200 people and 70 entities belonging to the Syrian regime are now targeted by EU sanctions over the violent repression against the civilian population in Syria.

The decision also extended the existing sanctions on Syria including the oil embargo and the restrictions on certain investments until 1 June 2016.
