UK condemns further Syrian barrel bomb use

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond strongly denounced the barrel bomb attacks which killed nearly 150 innocent civilians and wounded scores of others in Syria on Saturday.

"I am appalled by this latest brutal attack by Assad's regime, just over a week after video footage emerged showing Syrian regime aircrew dropping barrel bombs out of helicopters," he said in a press release by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

"This is further shocking proof of the horrific and indiscriminate methods the Assad regime is using to kill and injure innocent civilians, including children.

"Our position remains as strong as ever - we will continue to call for a political transition to a future in which Assad has no part," Hammond added.

The fatalities in new wave of barrel bomb attacks include 70 at Al-Hall Marketplace, to the east of the northern city of Aleppo, 13 in Al-Sha'ar district in the city, and 14 others in Belion village, Jebel Al-Zawya area, in the northwestern Idlib governorate.
