Medical supplies given to Yemeni patients

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) is to support the health sector in Yemen through a project to distribute cerebro-spinal fluid (CSF) collection machines among needy patients there.

This involves a QR125,000 funding from the General Directorate of Endowments (Awqaf), Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs.

The purpose of the project is to reduce the mortality rate from hydrocephalus, mitigate its complications, improve the well-being of patients to enable them to live normally, help poor families with hydrocephalic members and promote solidarity and compassion in society.

Launched in October 2014 in Sana'a, Yemen, the project involved purchasing 175 CSF collection machines.

So far, 117 machines have been delivered to hydrocephalic patients. Distribution is going on, based on a medical report from the relevant doctor or host hospital. Utilising the strong relations with some public and private hospitals as well as doctors, the organisation could have the surgeries done at minimal costs to ease the burden on the patients' poor families.

QRC has intervened to relieve the Yemeni people amid the current clashes, which have affected 16mn people. It is undertaking a QR7.3mn urgent relief programme that involves supplying medicines and medical consumables to hospitals, covering surgeries for patients and injured people, distributing food assistance, rehabilitating water projects and launching campaigns for garbage collection and public hygiene.
