Healthy Lifestyle Tied To Reduced Risk Of Cognitive Decline

Summary: As part of a healthy lifestyle researchers have proven that a healthy diet can help senior citizens experience less decline in thinking and memory over time.

May 8 2015 Miami FL-A report recently released by an international team of researchers and scientists offers definitive proof that a healthy diet as part of a healthy lifestyle may offer additional benefits for older citizens.  Over 27000 people from around the world were part of the test and results showed that those whose diet was within the top twenty percent when scored for healthfulness were almost twenty five percent less likely to experience cognitive decline during the study. The study participants were 55 or older who had a history of coronary cerebral or peripheral artery disease or high-risk diabetes.

“It is likely that a healthy diet has effects on cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular disease and that this is an important mechanism for reducing the risk of cognitive decline” said lead author Andrew Smyth of McMaster University in Hamilton Ontario Canada and the National University of Ireland in Galway. The results were similar when researchers excluded people who had overt clinical events like stroke suggesting that the benefit may also reduce the risk of cognitive decline for people without such clear indicators of advanced cardiovascular disease.

As people have been living longer lives and remaining healthy for a greater proportion of their years interest has been growing in living a comprehensive healthy lifestyle. Along with a proper healthy diet rich in nuts grains fruits vegetables and fish people are also looking for fitness centers and bootcamps in Miami to integrate physical exercise as well but in a way that does not expose them to a greater risk of injury.
