Ahlin destroys Riyadh Triathletes field to win second duathlon of season


(MENAFN- Arab News) RIYADH: Kris Ahlin won the second Riyadh Triathletes duathlon event of the season a 5km run followed by an 18.4km cycle then a 3km run in very hot conditions at Ranco Farm on the outskirts of Riyadh.
Once again the event attracted a great turnout of 89 competitors ranging in age from 8 to 72. There were junior club members who raced on a bike for the first time on a challenging and technical course. In all 55 managed to complete the full course with others completing various elements of the event.
Ahlin stormed to a 6 minute overall victory having destroyed the remainder of the field on the undulating bike course and also taking first place in all three elements of the event.
Second place overall went to Thomas Brackman as he continues in his IronMan preparation for later in the year. First Lady was taken by Anne Morrissey with a commendable time. First Female Junior went to Harriet Townhill with Taleb AlMarri with a great effort on his bike. Other category winners were: Alisdair Wild (Male Master) Paul McParland (Male Senior) Clare Scott (Female Open and 2nd overall) Maria Araujo (Female Vet).
Up for next weekend is the first full triathlon event of the season (swim 650mBike 24kmRun 4km) where the dynamics of combining all three disciplines will be very interesting on the leaderboard.
