Former NY Governor announces presidential bid

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The former governor of the state of New York, George Pataki, announced on Thursday that he will be seeking the US presidency for the Republican party in 2016.

The 69-year-old becomes the eighth candidate vying for the nomination.

Speaking to a crowd of supporters in New Hampshire, Pataki pledged to repeal President Barack Obama's new healthcare reform, lower taxes on working families and manufacturers, and called Washington's politicians "servants, not masters" of the American people.

He also vowed to "strengthen America's military." "I will never forget the lessons of September 11," he said.

Earlier in the day, Pataki told Fox News he would send in US soldiers to fight ISIL if he is elected president.

"If necessary, we will send in American boots on the ground to destroy those training centers, destroy those planning centers and then get out," he said.

Pataki served three terms as governor of New York, from 1995 to 2006.
