Mr Glue Stories personalised storybook appchildrens reading app

Mr. Glue Stories the app founded on the back of a child’s request to her mum for a story via email are an innovative way to encourage all children- even reluctant readers- to become engaged in the reading process.

Mr. Glue Stories allow kids to become immersed in their own creative world of reading writing illustrating and performing: firstly they choose an original story written in-house by the Mr. Glue team and then they personalise it with sound effects music and illustrations.

Children can put their own names in it or those of their friends pick characters and choose which bits of the story they want as they go along before reading it aloud recording it and emailing it to relatives or sharing online.

Thanks to the success of the app the stories created by kids on their iPads can now be turned into “proper” books for just £14 each. A step up from the older “Lost My Name” personalised books Mr. Glue Stories are fully customisable and engage children in every part of the story-telling process.

Children’s original characters and artwork will both be included: the illustrations (either pre-existing ones coloured in by the child or totally original ones created by them) from the app will also appear in the hard copy of the storybook allowing kids to build up their own at-home library of tales that they’ve helped to create themselves. Allowing kids to develop their own unique voice the paper version of the books can also help less keen readers to become more comfortable with traditional reading experiences.

Hard copies too can make the sharing process easier particularly if you have older relatives and can help to cut down on children’s screen time.

While the Mr. Glue Stories app encourages children to engage with reading via new technology on the tablet or smartphone the printed version of the book gives a more traditional experience of reading setting children up well for later study as well as being a permanent reminder of their efforts and creativity.

The reading experience becomes less passive with Mr. Glue Stories as the plot and the narrative are actively shaped and created by the child as the story develops giving them (and their friends) the chance to be the “hero” of their own tale.

The printed books also make lovely childhood mementos as well as gifts appropriate for any occasion.

Mr Glue Stories is the innovative next-generation app which follows on from the popular customised children’s reading book ‘Lost My Name’ bringing reading and children’s stories to life in a 2.0 world through creating personalised children’s books in a fun and interactive way on the iPad.

“Mr Glue is all about bringing the story on the page alive with music sound effects evil cackles. Children can add their own drawing and they have their own little recording studio so that they can turn the story into a performance and then when they are happy with their finished work of art they can email it to friends and family to share with them.”

The reader collaborates with the writer to release from each book a magical world of colour voice sound effects and music. Children are no longer passively looking at a story they are being invited to step into it and become involved with the process at every stage.

Unlike competitors (Lost My Name / Disney) – this app is not designed for the parent to create the story but for the child to build as part of their reading experience. This makes it more engaging for children and a personalised ‘adventure’ that they can build up on their bookshelves **
