Multiplex, CricOn register big victories in Power Horse T20 cricket tournament


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Multiplex and CricOn put on dominating performances to register comfortable victories in the Power Horse T20 cricket tournament at the Fair Ground Oval in Dubai Men's College at the Academic City, a Press release said.

The tournament, which is being held under the partnership of the Dubai Cricket Council, is organised by Power Horse Energy Drinks and managed by CricOn Sports Services. Mohammed Sulaiman blasted a fine century while Vipin Venu supported well with an unbeaten half century as Cricon humbled Etihad Airways by 55 runs. CricOn's decision to bat first paid rich dividends as Sulaiman slammed a fine 103 from just 46 balls peppered by eight boundaries and nine sixes.

Venu blasted a 21-ball 51 including six boundaries and three sixes while Sudheesh Thulaseedharan (25) and Shaju Sam (20) made small contributions to ensure CricOn had a huge 227 for four in 20 overs. Chasing a huge target, opener Tareq Afridi provided a glimpse of a hope firing 68 from 29 deliveries including five boundaries and six sixes. But Mohammed Zohaib picked up three crucial wickets as Etihad Airways lost wicket at regular intervals to fold up for 172 in 19 overs.

Mohd Ashfaq and Ajmal Masahir claimed two wickets each for the winners. In another match, Multiplex showed great form as they defeated Desert King Water Proofing by six wickets.

Chasing 142 to win, Ali Zeeshan (25, 24b, 3x4) and Sapandeep Singh played well to ensure Multiplex were well on the track to a comprehensive victory.

Singh showed brutal form as he blasted a 16-ball 44 including two boundaries and five sixes before Yasir Mohammed (17, 19b, 2x4) and Abdul Shakoor (29, 14b, 3x4, 1x6) finished off the formalities to score the target in 14.1 overs. Earlier batting first, Desert King piled on a challenging 141 for six in 20 overs. Adnan Khan top scored with 47 from 34 deliveries supported by four boundaries and two sixes while Rohit Singh hit a 40-ball 45. Mohammed Ateeq (19) and Abdul Shakoor (14) played brief cameos.
