Madagascar President slams dismissal move by parliament

(MENAFN- The Journal Of Turkish Weekly) Madagascar President Hery Rajaonarimampianina on Wednesday condemned a parliamentary decision to dismiss him one day earlier.

In a radio address, Rajaonarimampianina said that the parliament has no right to dismiss him.

"The MPs have the right to impeach, not to dismiss me," he said, going on to stress that the Indian Ocean's island needed stability.

On Tuesday, the parliament voted overwhelmingly to dismiss Rajaonarimampianina for alleged constitutional violations and general incompetence.

The constitutional court will now decide whether the decision by the parliament to discharge Rajaonarimampianina can be enacted.

Rajaonarimampianina was inaugurated in January of last year after winning a democratic presidential vote.
