Jordan FM participates in OIC meetings in Kuwait

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Expatriates' Affairs, Nasser Judeh, on Wednesday, participated in an Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers' meeting, which opened in Kuwait, under the title: "Shared Vision in Promoting Tolerance and Denouncing Terrorism."

In a speech, Judeh said terrorism has become a serious and direct threat, and no longer just a challenge facing one country because it disseminates hatred and division.

He stressed that Jordan was and will stay at the forefront of efforts to confront terrorist gangs and extremists, noting that young people are the most targeted by extremist organizations.

The minister called for protecting young people, as more than 780 million of youths in the Muslim world are under the age of 20, representing 11 percent of the world's population, stressing the importance of providing them with jobs, protection and much more.

In this regard, the foreign minister pointed to His Royal Highness the Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah's speech at the UN Security Council in April, in which he stressed that young people are the first victims of extremism and terrorism, and they are not marginalized but targeted.

He added that challenges Islam is facing require cooperation to defend the religion and combat terror and extremism, saying Muslim states should be in the lead to defend Islam and combat terrorism and extremism which seeks to distort the real image of this religion and its noble message."

Judeh said that His Majesty King Abdullah II has been focusing, for years, on the importance of enlightenment and ideological dimensions, and the need to highlight the Islamic approach based on respect for diversity, and uphold a culture of dialogue and openness. That is why he launched initiatives such as the "Amman Message" and "A Common Word."

He added that the continued absence of a just solution to the Palestinian issue fuels tensions in the region.

On the sidelines of the gathering, the foreign minister held meetings with a number of participating officials, in which they discussed bilateral relations, the latest developments in the region and the importance of cooperation to deal with challenges and developments, especially terrorism and extremism.
