Planning minister, German delegation discuss Syrian crisis

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury on Thursday met with a German parliamentary delegation led by Head of the Economic and Energy Committee and President of the Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry Peter Ramsauer.

Fakhoury stressed the importance of stepping up joint efforts to ease the impact of the Syrian crisis on Jordan through financing projects included in the 2015 Jordanian Response Plan.

The minister reviewed the impact of hosting a large number of Syrian refugees in the Kingdom, who are placing mounting pressure on the budget as well as the sectors of water, education, health and energy.

He urged the international community to assist Jordan by providing direct support to the government to ease the impact of the Syrian refugees on the national economy, noting that only 9.6 percent of projects in the 2015 plan were funded.

"The 2016-2018 response plan is currently being prepared in cooperation with UN agencies and donors," Fakhoury said, noting that this would facilitate the process of review and modernization.

The head of the German delegation praised the ministry's efforts to launch the "Jordan 2025" vision and confirmed his country's readiness to help Jordan implement the document.
