Switzerland's exports down 1.3 percent in April

(MENAFN) Switzerland said its exports declined in April as the strength of the Swiss franc limited demand in the EU and the US for its chemicals, petrochemicals and watches, 4-traders reported.

Exports in April dropped 1.3 percent in real terms from a year earlier, to USD17.2 billion, the customs office said in a statement, while in nominal terms, exports dropped 5.1 percent, it said.

Meanwhile, imports reached USD14.08 billion, a drop of 0.7 percent in real terms and 8.1 percent lower in nominal terms. April's trade surplus widened to USD3.04 billion from March's USD2.62 billion.

Watch exports in April dropped a nominal 0.8 percent, according to the customs office. Watch exports were worth USD1.92 billion, for a gain of 1.1 percent in real terms.
