Oman officials to attend IORA's Mauritius meeting
The Omani delegation comprises Said bin Nasser al Khusaibi chairman of the Indian Ocean Rim Business Forum Salem bin Saif al Rawahi from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Adel al Busaidi tourist affairs advisor in the Ministry of Tourism.
The Department of Foreign Affairs of Trade (DFAT) of Australia as the Chair of IORA and supported by the IORA Secretariat will host the meeting to discuss and evaluate the progress of cooperation.
The agenda includes subjects such as update on the status of projects under the association's six priority areas including maritime safety and security trade and investment facilitation fisheries management disaster risk management academic science and technology and tourism and cultural exchanges.
In a statement MoT said that tourism will form an important part of the second session of the meeting. The focus of that session will be to follow up on the implementation of the recommendations and decisions of the Seychelles Declaration passed in November 2014.
The conference in Seychelles saw tourism ministers from countries in IORA pledging to work together to promote tourism in the region.
It ended with propagating maximising regional development through sustainable tourism bridging the gap between tourism and aviation policies and developing cruise tourism. Sultanate has been part of a strategy that champions the joint promotion of the Indian Ocean Rim region as an integrated tourism destination.
A feasibility study was undertaken by Oman on behalf of IORA to find out the region's travel and tourism trends. The study also explored the potential for tourism investment training and even a region-wide tourism fair conceived on the lines of signature travel expositions such as the ITB Berlin and ATM Dubai.
