EU, Tunisia agree to strengthen bilateral cooperation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) EU High Representative Federica Mogherini met here Wednesday evening with Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid and discussed the overall bilateral relations.

"The EU does not only express its intentions of being closer and cooperates with Tunisia but also when the time comes to make concrete decisions about what to fund, we do make cooperation with Tunisia a political priority," Mogherini told a news conference after the meeting.

"We share a region with all the opportunities and problems that represents and we also share a desire to help our people especially the young people both in Europe and Tunisia and to bring them close together," she added.

On his part, Essid told the joint press conference that "our relations with the EU since the Tunisian revolution and the support that we have received from the EU in order to facilitate the political transition have been extremely important for us." He added that with regards to research, a significant agreement will be signed shortly with the EU and Tunisia greatly welcomes the opportunity to be a part of this far reaching research programme that the EU is setting up.

The Tunisian prime minister will speak in the European Parliament Thursday and also hold talks with NATO officials.
