Seven staff members from ProEx a physical therapist owned private practice specializing in orthopedics spine and sports medicine will volunteer at the Special Olympics Connecticut Summer Games on June 6th and 7th in New Haven by conducting FUNfitness screenings the fitness event developed in collaboration with the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) for Special Olympics Healthy Athletes.
The screening is part of the Healthy Athletes program designed to help Special Olympics athletes improve their health and fitness. Its ultimate aim is to improve each athlete's ability to train and compete in Special Olympics as well as in life. Volunteers from ProEx will teach proper stretching techniques and assist with injury assessment treatment and prevention.
This will mark the second time this year that ProEx staff participated in the program; several members of the ProEx team volunteered their time during the Special Olympics Connecticut Winter Games held in March in East Hartford.
“We’re proud of our staff members who will devote their time to this important screening program” said Tina McDonald Regional Clinical Director at ProEx. “Their reward will be in knowing they were able to assist with a Special Olympics event.”
