CARE calls on international community to support Jordan

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Country Director of CARE Jordan Salam Kanaan called on the international community and donors to increase their support for the Kingdom to help it to fulfill its obligations to the Syrian refugees living in the country.

She also confirmed in her statement, made on the sidelines of the organization's new headquarters launch, which coincides with the 76th anniversary of its launch in Jordan, that the lack of funding for development and relief projects is the main difficulty facing the concerned humanitarian organizations in Jordan.

Kanaan also explained the organization's duties and functions in providing assistance and projects that contribute toward alleviating the suffering of the refugees, noting that CARE faces a huge challenge in maintaining its high level of support.

She also announced the launch of series of projects to develop local communities in East Amman, Zarqa, Irbid and Mafraq, to enhance women's economic participation as well as their role in decision-making.

The global CARE's programs in Jordan focused on three priorities: empowering women, supporting civil society and improving local communities' ability to respond to emergencies CARE believes that sustainable development to combat poverty requires full and effective participation from men and women.
