GCC citizen's jail term reduced from 10 to three years
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The Court of Appeal has reduced the sentence of a GCC man convicted of possessing and dealing in drugs from 10 years in jail to three years, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
He also has to pay a fine of QR200,000. The defendant was convicted by the Court of First Instance and given a sentence of 10 years in jail, besides being ordered to pay a fine of QR200,000. The court had established his guilt based on the circumstances of
his arrest and police and Public Prosecution investigations.
The man used to take hashish and other drugs, besides trading them with others, according to security sources. However, he never admitted his guilt and denied all the charges.
The Court of Appeal said while it was certain that legal procedures were carried out in the proper manner, there was scope for reducing the sentence.
