Pavilion at Expo Milano brings alive essence of Oman


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) A mini Oman has come alive at  Expo Milano 2015 where the Omani pavilion extending over 2790sq m and three floors has attracted more than 215000 visitors in the first three weeks.

Dhofar's fog a real falaj honey nuts and roses from Jebel Akhdar and Oman's marine wonders are some of the attractions that provide a glimpse of the sultanate.

The pavilion is located just at the East Entrance Roserio recognisable from the architecture of Arab-Islamic medieval forts. The expo runs in the Italian city until October.

According to the theme of the pavilion 'Heritage in Harvest: Harnessing the Sea Sun and Sand' the exhibition area is divided in four spaces representing water oasis sea and traditions.

In the first section 'Harnessing every drop of water' Oman presents its long tradition in managing water resources.

Just after the entrance visitors are enveloped by the fog of the khareef that makes Dhofar lush.

Outside the pavilion is a real falaj a 2000 year old ancient irrigation system made of a dense network of canals and dams that has received Unesco World Heritage status.

The second section 'Our rich farming heritage' portrays the history and innovations of Oman's agricultural industry and its rich produce such as honey nuts dates and roses.

The pavilion tells this story through informative panels images plastic models and 3D projections.

In the third section 'Treasures of our seas' visitors can know about the fishing industry based on traditional techniques but subject to constant research and development to safeguard the marine habitat while boosting production.

A special augmented reality system takes visitors under the ocean surface to swim among seabeds with the marine creatures. The fourth section 'Welcome To Our Home' is an authentic showcase of Omani hospitality.

The area portrays the sablat the room in an Omani house where guests are received.

The pavilion hosts an authentic Omani restaurant Al Sablah which is a collaboration between Omani and Italian chefs. It offers international as well as traditional Omani meals. The Sablah Juice Bar offers a rich variety of fresh juices and in the Terrace Café visitors can enjoy a refined range of teas and coffees including the traditional Omani coffee with special dates.
