Oman targets more Indian travellers


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) To attract more visitors from India and improve upon the 4.7 per cent increase witnessed in 2014 the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) is conducting workshops in four Indian metros.

The ministry in cooperation with its representative office in India along with 11 travel and tourism representatives from the sultanate started the tour with a workshop in Chennai on Monday.

The delegation will visit Bangalore New Delhi and Mumbai conducting workshops till June 1. The ministry stated that the current statistics show that a growing number of tourists are coming to Oman from Asia particularly India.

The number of Asian visitors increased by 9.1 per cent in 2014 touching 474653 compared to 435067 in 2013. Of these 256210 were from India in 2014 compared to 244786 in 2013 an increase of 4.7 per cent.

Talking about the purpose of the workshops Salem al Maamari director general of tourism promotion MoT said that the idea is to promote various tourism products of Oman which are compatible with the requirements of the Indian tourism market.

'It is also an opportunity for representatives of companies from Oman to meet their counterparts in India and showcase their product portfolio through promotional videos specialised workshops and meetings.'

Maamari added that India is one of the emerging tourism markets on the global tourism map especially for weddings and film industry. 'Through these events we want to introduce and promote the diverse elements of Oman tourism in order to attract Indians looking to travel abroad.' He said that such events further bolster the healthy relationship both countries share.

'We want to make Oman the preferred tourist destination for Indian travellers. With Oman Air's flights from several Indian cities we want Indian travellers not only to visit Oman but also make use of the national airline's link to other Arab countries and in Europe.'
