(MENAFN- Arab Times) In the semifinals of Khalid Arshad Memorial Hockey Tournament played Friday, KOC Green won the fierce battle against the KOC Blue by a 4-2 margin and Don Bosco Hockey eased pasted International Red with a 5-0 score line with Sherwin D'Souza making the difference between the teams.
In the first semifinal, the table toppers and in form side, KOC Green took on their rivals KOC Blue. It was expected to be a game of high standard as both teams looked to book a place in the finals.
The match was relatively slow paced in the first half with both teams playing with caution. In the 12th minute, the tournament's top scorer Zaheed Nawaz chipped over the goalkeeper from a swift move involving Mastan and Aurangeb to make in 1-0 before changing ends.
In the second half, the Blues exerted tremendous efforts to make a comeback but soon were disappointed. Saqib Ajmal converted a beautifully placed penalty corner to give goakkeeper Ali no chance. Later Sohail Alam scored his 6th goal of the tournament to make it 3-0.
The score line was rounded off by Musthaq finding the net from a zero angle. In the dying moments of the game, Blues managed to put two past the Greens through Zahoor and Shaukat.
In the second semifinal, Don Bosco Hockey went against the surprise package of the tournament, International Red.
Don Bosco were disappointed after their loss against the Greens and wanted to bounce back. The match started off in fashion as both teams played a high pressing game with the Bosco Boys enjoying more possession of the ball which soon resulted in a goal.
The experienced defender Bruno converted to break the deadlock to put his team one up before the break. After the break, Sherwin D'Souza went bizarre and the Reds had no answer.
He found the net three times to the surprise of hapless defence of the Reds. Reds struggled to keep pace against Don Bosco as Murgan, Savio Richard and Alex marshalled the midfield with authority.
In the dying moments of the game, Eustace added his name to the score sheet. The Man of the Match was Sherwin D'Souza.
The final of the Khalid Arshad Memorial Hockey Tournament sponsored by Al Yasra Foods will be played between hosts KOC Green and Don Bosco Hockey at the Bayan Grounds on Friday, May 29. Vying for the third place are KOC Blues and International Red. Venue: Bayan Ground.
