Biden reaffirms US support to Iraq in call with PM Abadi


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Vice President Joe Biden spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi on Monday to reaffirm the US support for the Iraqi government's fight against ISIL, a White House statement indicated.

In the call Biden recognized "the enormous sacrifice and bravery of Iraqi forces over the past eighteen months in Ramadi and elsewhere." He also welcomed a May 19 decision by the Council of Ministers to mobilize additional troops, honor those who have fallen, and prepare for counter-attack operations.

Finally, Biden, "pledged full US support in these and other Iraqi efforts to liberate territory from ISIL, including the expedited provision of US training and equipment to address the threat posed by ISIL's use of truck bombs."
