UAE- FNC issues statement on 34th anniversary of GCC

(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of the Federal National Council (FNC), has said that the UAE, led by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and the launch-pad of the Gulf Cooperation Council for Arab States, 34 years ago, has been and will remain at the forefront to develop and update the mechanisms of the GCC joint action.

"This glorious anniversary comes at a time when serious developments are unfolding and dangerous challenges are sweeping across the region. The GCC has proven its ability to interact positively to face those challenges and overcome many of the risks and difficulties it encountered. It has also scored prominent and remarkable achievements that contributed effectively to the security, thanks to the support of the GCC leaders and peoples," according to the statement issued by the FNC to mark the 34th anniversary of the GCC.

It added that the GCC joint action resulted in Operation Decisive Storm, followed by the Operation Restore Hope, led by Saudi Arabia, to restore security and stability to Yemen, support the constitutional legitimacy and institutions in the sisterly state of Yemen as well as deter all those who harbour evil for Yemen, and put an end to all greedy regional agendas.

The statement noted that the GCC's people remember today the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE, who also initiated the idea of establishing the GCC, following the success of the UAE union model.

The FNC extended congratulations on this great occasion to President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Their Majesties and Highnesses, the GCC leaders. It wished for the GCC to further score more achievements in the framework of common destiny and unified vision towards Arab, Islamic and international issues.
