Week ahead: Government to outline plans in Queen's Speech

(MENAFN- ProactiveInvestors) It is looking like a quiet week on the corporate news front which will enable investors to focus on the Queen's Speech on Wednesday.

The government will outline its flagship policies for the first year of the new parliament including the possibility of naming the date for a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.

On the subject of reclaiming power from a remote and not especially representative governing body the Scottish Nationalist Party will be keeping a close eye on the contents of the speech to see whether the government will keep its promises to devolve more powers north of the border.

Monday will see Britain with its feet up enjoying the late Spring bank holiday though B&Q owner Kingfisher will be hoping Britons rekindle their fading love affair with DIY tinkering.

Kingfisher releases a trading update on Thursday that should see new chief executive officer Véronique Laury update on how well the dramatic change of direction for the DIY group is progressing.

The boss has already announced plans to close around 60 B&Q outlets in Britain plus a few of its loss-making stores in continental Europe.

On Tuesday no-frills airline Ryanair reports full-year results that will demonstrate whether the company's Damascene conversion to treating its customers with more respect is paying off.

Investec is forecasting net income of €847mln which would represent a 62% year-on-year increase.

“While strong results are expected we see risk to the downside for near term yield guidance. A continuation of the carriers’ commercial repositioning should see high profile primary airports added to the route map in 2016 with recent media reports suggesting Paris CDG as a potential Ryanair destination” the broker said.

“Volume momentum continues to build and we believe the carrier is increasingly well positioned to grow market share” it added.
