Qatar- Hukoomi mobile app launched

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Mobile device users can now access and use e-Services and information provided at Hukoomi portal (www.gov.qa) by downloading and installing Hukoomi Mobile App on their smartphones and tablets.

The app was launched yesterday by the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology's (ictQATAR) ICT Government Programmes.

It is an extra interactive channel between Hukoomi and its users, targeting faster and easier e-Services and information needed to be available and accessible anytime anywhere, and is part of a continued improvement of the portal, said Tareq Alemadi, Manager, E-Government Portal Department.

Hukoomi contains some 4.4 million pages and has over 50,000 subscribers. It is visited around 500,000 times a month and attracts visitors from over 180 countries.

Around 76 percent of visitors log on to the portal through desktops and laptops versus 24 percent through mobile devices.

"The app shows that we are keen to fulfil objectives of Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy to provide unique, efficient and accessible services for citizens, businesses and visitors for a better life, benefiting from the potentials of the ICTs," Alemadi added.

"Statistics show high mobile Internet penetration in Qatar that pushed us to cope with the rising trend by designing the app for people to enjoy smoother access to government services and information that are simple, secure and available anytime anywhere," he noted.

The app, available for Apple, Android, Microsoft and BlackBerry, offers mobile device users easy access to latest government news, events and activities in Qatar.

Users can access location maps and points of interest based on category preference such as business, government, finance, health, education and more, said Hanan Abdel Sattar, Head, Service Delivery Section.

She said a directory search allows users to access and contact government entities and public services. They can also view government mobile applications store and download any app, access all information and services available on Hukoomi portal through a unified search and submit feedback and suggestions for better services.

Hukoomi was launched in 2008. Phase 2 went live in 2010 with some 400 services, including 150 e-Services. The portal has been enhanced to offer around 900 services, including 300 e-Services following the official release of Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy last May.
