(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Under the patronage of HE the Minister of Public Health Abdulla bin Khalid al-Qahtani, Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will honour blood donors at a celebratory event scheduled to coincide with World Blood Donor Day on June 14.
More than 400 blood donors and a number of local organisations will be honoured during the event. This year, World Blood Donor Day will be marked globally under the theme "Thank You for Saving My Life".
Sponsors of this year's event are Qatar Chemical Company - platinum sponsor, Alfardan Holding Company and Qatargas - gold sponsors, and Qatar Electricity and Water Company, Qatar Steel, Al Darwish United Company and Qatar Petrochemical Company - silver sponsors.
Ali al-Khater, executive director of HMC's Corporate Communications Department, said the corporation was grateful for the support of some of Qatar's most high-profile companies and the wider community.
"Blood donation helps save millions of lives every year. It gives patients with life-threatening diseases in need of blood transfusion a chance to live longer and improve the quality of their lives," he said. "We are very grateful for the widespread community support for blood donation in Qatar."
Al-Khater said the Blood Donor Centre at HMC and the Corporate Communications Department have joined forces to promote World Blood Donor Day through media campaigns and supporting various events and activities.
Siddiqa al-Mahmoudi, medical director of the Blood Donor Centre, said World Blood Donor Day is celebrated in Qatar and globally to express gratitude to voluntary blood donors who are helping save the lives of patients with life-threatening diseases.
