(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Video Home & Jumbo Electronics, founded by the late Jassim Mohamed Sulaiman and two of his colleagues along with the first employee and co-founder, C V Rappai, is celebrating its 35th year of operations in Qatar.
A special ceremony was held, featuring officials from the company, to mark the occasion.
The company has grown from having a single electronics showroom with three employees and a few products in 1980 to being a diversified organisation in various fields of business, with over 15 electronics outlets, around 1,000 employees and more than 500 product categories representing 100 brands, according to a statement.
At the outset of the 35th anniversary celebration, the company expressed gratitude to the late Jassim Mohamed Sulaiman, who guided the organisation until July 2013 before passing the mantle to his heir, Sajed Jassim Mohamed Sulaiman.
Jumbo's board is chaired by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saif al-Thani, supported by vice-chairman and managing director Sajed Jassim Mohamed Sulaiman and directors Dr Hajar Ahmed HB al-Binali, Ahmed Abdulla al-Khal and Rappai, director and CEO.
With a turnover of QR65mn in 2000, Jumbo Electronics is on its way to reaching a turnover of QR1bn by 2016. Thereafter, it plans to achieve a constant CAGR (compound annual growth rate) of around 10% till 2020, the statement adds.
The company's plans include opening new showrooms exclusively for LG's high-end range of products as well as the second showroom of the group's subsidiary company, Spark Lifestyle Electronics, in an upcoming mall, reaching QR1mn sales online through sparkqatar.com this year and targeting three times the growth next year.
It also plans to set up a full-fledged facility management division and foray into major IT hardware and software solutions, build management solutions.
Among the other plans are adding three more satellite service centres with an outlet for spare parts distribution in Al Furjan neighbourhood shopping complexes at Um Al Saneem, Rawdat Al Gadeem and Rawdat Al Hamama, issuing 10,000 new Jumbo Digits Loyalty Cards during the 35th anniversary and expanding the MEP division.
